South Shore Harbour bills itself as a resort-based master planned community
on the shores of Clear Lake. 

Lakeside amenities include South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center, a 70,000-square-foot fitness center and a 1,000-slip marina. The 1,700-acre community is about a 30-minute drive to either downtown or Galveston.

The 240-unit Harbourview Care Center offers assisted care living for seniors. Not surprisingly, the landscaping and architecture are highly uniform. Traditional, two-story red brick houses with wood on the sides and backs abound. Two trees are planted at regular intervals in front of almost every home. The development might not
appeal to inner-loopers used to varied architectural styles and big trees found in older neighborhoods.

A wide range of prices are found in South Shore Harbour. Buyers relocating from out of state are impressed with the affordability and the amenities found here. Also, patio homes, town homes and apartments are available for those wanting to live by the water. But none of the homes in the community's six single-family residential villages actually has lake frontage.

Other neighborhoods include South Shore Park, Harbour Park, Marina Bay Park, South Shore Village, Meadowbend, Harbour Pointe, Palm Cove, Marina Cove and Fairway Pointe. The oldest neighborhood, Country Club Village, was built in 1983 and is on the golf course. There are a few subdivision being developed including South Shore Lakes, Southpointe at South Shore, South Lake and South Shore Lake Estates.
